This guide covers the northern part of Perthshire – an area often referred to as Highland Perthshire. It runs from the fertile plains around the River Tay in the east to the empty wilderness of Rannoch Moor in the west. Routes covered range from 0.5 miles/1.2kms – 12 miles/19kms and include the marvellous path network around the town of Pitlochry, the Birks of Aberfeldy, ascents of Ben Lawers and Schiehallion and circuits in the glens around Blair Atholl. There are also two walks featured which cross remote Rannoch Moor as well as many other varied walks through the magnificent ‘Heart of Scotland’.
